There are many quaint mountain towns with excellent ski resorts located throughout the state of Colorado. One that is usually overlooked by visitors that travel to Aspen or Vail is Telluride, Colorado. This town is a farther drive from Denver and tucked in the San Juan mountain range making it one of the most gorgeous places you will ever see. The steep mountain peaks drop directly down into the Victorian styled buildings in town and make it a favorite destination for many celebrities such as Tom Cruise. If the blue sky is more your liking take a glider ride off of the top of the mountain to see the valley below or go on a horseback ride on the plentiful trails.
Most of the people that do go to Telluride in the winter go skiing and snowboarding. Just as during the summer, there are various other activities to do in the winter other than skiing. For a unique experience take a sleigh ride pulled by horses or be pulled by dogs for a dog sledding experience as well. If you are an expert level skier you can go helicopter or cat skiing taking you to remote untouched terrain. The cross country skiing trails are beautifully groomed in addition to areas for some cardio enducing snowshoeing as well.
Telluride is known for some famous festivals and events that have been happening for over 30 years. Some of the better known events are the Telluride Film Festival, the Bluegrass Festival and the Jazz Celebration. If you wish to visit during fall foliage go in September during the Blues and Brews event.
