Posted in Sports

For those who like to experience sporting action to the extreme and like living on the edge, kite boards are the perfect choice for them. Few things pump your adrenaline as much as kite boarding does. Kite boarding as a sport offers a perfect amalgam of fun, thrill and speed and that is why you will find these boards are already a popular sight in many parts of the world. Though you will find this sport mostly in the US, but these days it has become so popular that you will find this in other parts of the world as well.

So far so good, but one might still wonder, what is kite boarding. For those who are still wondering what the sport is all about, kite boarding is an extreme sport that uses powerful, controllable kites to propel riders on in-line skates, off-road skates or mountain boards at speeds up to 60 mph across parking lots, open spaces, deserts, fields and beaches. If you have always wanted to have wings of your own so that you could soar high above the ground, watch the people from up above in the sky, and feel the wind gushing into your face, you will find the beckoning of kite boarding simply irresistible.

The kite boards originated in the Eastern Coast of USA in 1990 when sport kite enthusiasts began kite skating, or Rollerkiting, at various local festivals there. Large parking lots were among the most popular venues for these early kiteskating efforts. Back then, kite skaters primarily used Rollerblades and four-line controllable kites built of parafoil.

However kite boarding saw a dip in its popularity when kite buggy racing came. The popularity of kite boarding surged once again in 1992 under the pioneering efforts of Bob Childs who built a pair of off-road in-line skates using Rollerblade boots and scooter wheels. Recently, ATB skateboard riders have joined the league of kite skaters. Kite Skateboarding daredevils travel on mountain-boards to speed around on multi-terrain surfaces, usually at a lesser speed than Kite Skaters. However, kite skateboarding is more exciting owing to the greater number of jump tricks. It is this element of spectacle that makes kite boarding such an exciting sport to watch and participate in.

Over the last few years, these boards have undergone many changes and improvements. Today, quality equipment for kite boarders are not very hard to find – you will get them both online and offline. However, it is critical to use only good quality gear that will not give way under the usually strenuous demands of the sport. What should concern you the most is your safety. Like in every other sport, performance depends substantially on the quality of the kite boards that one uses.
