This lush green mountain, at times completely bathed in sunshine or hidden in clouds has now become a timeless symbol of Rhodes. Furthermore, on the top of the mountain one can find the ruins of an old temple that was dedicated to god Zeus.
Mountain Akramitis:
After Ataviros Mountain, the Mountain Akramitis is the second highest mountain in Rhodes, Greece. It has an altitude of 850 m and is covered by pine trees. Like the Ataviros Mountain, travelling on the mountain is only possible on foot.
If you make it to the top of the mountain, you get to see spectacular views of the island. It is a photogenic place and you can take a lot of pictures.
Prophitis Ilias Mountain:
Prophitis Ilias Mountain is a forested mountain with an altitude of about 800 meter. Nearly in the middle of the Apollona town near the western coast, this mountain is located.
The mountain seems to be covered with trees of Cypress and Calabrian pines. Many different species of flowers like endemic, anemones, cyclamens, rare white peony and different kind of orchids are found abundantly here.
Once can find snakes, lizards and a variety of butterflies on this mountain too. The long legged buzzards, coocoos, honey buzzards and woodlarks are some of the birds found on Prophitis Ilias Mountain.
Mountain Tsambika:
Mountain Tsambika is situated on the eastern side of the Rhodes Island and has an altitude of about 350 m. Located on the top of mountain is the famous monastery of monks The Panaghia famously known as the Virgin.
Mountaineers love this place too as the more you go up the more stunning the views get of the surrounding areas. The peak of the mountain has a calm and serene atmosphere.
Philerimo Mountain:
Another famous mountain in the Rhodes Island is that of Philerimo. Mountain with its lush green landscape is located at a height of280 m.
