The Rome Journey

Posted in Travel

Rome is a magnificent city, with its architecture, monuments and museums, but it is also and above all an active city, where nevertheless taking it easy reaps rewards. In reality, the Italian capital offers an idyllic setting for chilling out, appreciating life and savouring every instant. In other words, La Dolce Vita is easy to adopt, but rather more difficult to get rid of….

If you walk along the Via Veneto you will soon realise that the reality of Rome today is far removed from the image Fellini engraved on our collective memories in this famous film “La Dolce Vita”. You will note that the Via Veneto is completely different from that of the 50′s and 60′s. No longer will you see actors or exiled monarchs sat at cafe tables, besieged by paparazzi, though you may be able to find a few outmoded tourists.

The spirit of La Dolce Vita has changed with time; no more is it only reserved for idle aristocrats but rather to large, non-conventional groups, looking above all for relaxation, fun and, during the night, a good party.

It is self-satisfaction and a slightly irresponsible attitude that has invaded the narrow streets of the Trastevere district (www.rome-roma.net/trastevere1). This part of town is extremely lively: you can take a walk through the labyrinth of alleys and walkways, visiting along the way numerous cafes, restaurants and even nightclubs. The areas around Via Della Pace and the Campo De’ Fiori are equally interesting for their nocturnal goings-on. However, if you wish to enjoy the city to its full, it is recommended to take a Roma alloggio (hotel a Roma) so as not to have to walk the streets indefinitely during the night…

On La Via della Pace, just adjacent to Piazza Navona, you will find the well-known Antico Caffe’ della Pace ( http://www.caffedellapace.it), which is a meeting point for intellectuals and celebrities not only during the day but also by night.

The Campo de’ Fiori is one of the most buzzing parts of Rome: during the morning it’s filled with market stalls whilst during the night it is invaded by hundreds of young things, who meet up in the copious wine bars and the bars around the square.

If instead you are looking for real nightclubs, you will find an enormous selection in Rome. These are the most popular: Gilda, loved by politicians and showbiz stars alike; Goa, for electronic music and Art exhibitions; and Ex Magazzini and Black out rock club for live concerts.
If you wish to taste all of the delicious elements and savour the sweet life in full Italian style, I would recommend you to get there a little earlier and reserve an appartamenti a Roma.
