The Resort Of Caleta De Fuste
Boasting mile upon mile of beautiful beaches, Fuerteventura is the 2nd largest of the seven islands that make up the Canaries. Basking in over three thousand hours every year of sunshine, Fuerteventura has become more popular with tourists of all ages.
The 2 main English resorts in Fuerteventura are Corralejo (which is in the North) and Caleta de Fuste (or El Castillo as it is sometimes known) which is on the East coast, only a 15 minute drive from the airport of Fuerteventura. Although Corralejo is the larger of the 2 resorts, there is still lot’s to do in Caleta de Fuste (El Castillo).
restaurants and bars line the main streets of Caleta de Fuste (El Castillo), and here are cuisines from all around the world to choose from including, Portuguese, Mexican, Thai, Indian, English and of course Spanish. If you fancy dancing the night away, then there are two or three nightclubs that stay open until 4 or 5am. The bars in Caleta tend to close about 2 or 3am depending on the time of year.
Caleta de Fuste (El Castillo) caters very well for children, and you will find numerous activities including mini golf, tennis, archery, bowlingarchery, bowling, trampolining and various parks dotted about. The infamous ‘sand man’ can also be found down on the beach. Children are able to have lessons, and learn from a professional the art of sand sculptures. The water park ‘Baku’ is located only 35 minutes away in Corralejo and is a fantastic day out!
The man made, horse shoe shaped beach offers lot’s of water sports and boat trips can be booked down at the harbour. There is also the infamous ‘floating shop’ where children, and even the adults are able to feed the fish!
A weekly market is held at the Montecastillo Centre on Chipmonk Mountain where many a bargain can be picked up including leather handbags and copy designer watches. Cheap handbags and replica watches can be bought at knock down prices!
The nearby Atlantico Shopping Centre, which is situated at the end of the beach walk, provides a large supermarket, clothes shops, boutiques, jewellery shops, bars and restaurants and live entertainment at various times of the year. There is also a McDonalds, Bowling Alley and Burger King situated in the centre. To get around Caleta de Fuste, there is a hourly train which takes you around both the MonteCastillo area and downtown Caleta.
Car hire isn’t essential to see Caleta de Fuste, but if you want to check out this beautiful island then it is always best to pre book your car hire before you arrival. There are countless places to visit around the island and some beautiful, secluded beaches to be enjoyed.
Holiday accomodations in Caleta de Fuste is for the most part self catering and 4/5 star hotels. There is an large quantity of privately owned holiday homes and apartments also available. Cheaper flights are now available with Easyjet and Ryanair flying from various UK airports and Ireland. The weather in Fuerteventura can reach the mid thirties in the summer months and low twenties in the winter months and enjoys over three thousand hours of sunshine every year. A lovely island to visit, at anytime of the year.
Overall, Caleta de Fuste (El Castillo) has something for both couples and families, and is a great base in which to explore the beautiful island as the majority of tourists attractions are located less than an hour’s drive away.
