The Difference Between America And Britain
Regardles of the same language, not talking about the difference of spellings, British and Americans have a big cultural and traditional difference in almost every aspect of life. Few might think that there are more likeliness than differences but it is hard to see any similarity beyondbesides music and movies. We can say, may be art really knows no borders, so, we’ll simply neglect that point. We can’t really use the word ‘entertainment’ in spite of art here as another main difference seen in British and American lifestyle is of sports. Undoubtedly, football has marred that difference to a good degree, but there is still one small difference one can easily notice in the local playgrounds. In America, it is more probably to find Pitching machines and other baseball training aids in almost every locality. Conversely, the British find their own pride in the game of cricket.
Although both the games are bat and ball games and both require two teams of players and follow somewhat similar rules, there are more differences than one can imagine. Here we are not only talking about the usage of word ‘pitching’ instead of ‘bowling’, but far more technical differences as well. Let’s take look at how the Americans have managed to spend their leisure time differently than the British.
• The first noticeable differencepoimt is a field. The cricket atadiomPs is circular in shape and the baseball field is a unique diamond shape. The bat of this American sport is a cylindrical one with the diameter of one end bigger than the other. On the other hand, the shape of cricket bat is flat with a rounded handle on the top.
• The ball used for both the games are round. The cricket ball now used in test matches is red in color and comparatively more heavier but has a smaller circumference. However, the difference is negligible. Both the balls are made of cork. The baseball ball is always white with red stitching and in cricket ball, white is used for ODIs.
• In baseball, the number of umpire can range between one to six. But, generally there are four umpires in a field. In cricket, there are normally three umpires, out of which two are on the field and third umpire is not in the field. There is also a match referee in cricket.
• In baseball, everyone in the game except the catcher wear a glove in one hand. In cricket, protective equipment is used by the batsmen while other other players do not wear any sort of equipment.
• In basketball, individually a batsman is allowed a maximum of three legal pitches. In cricket, the number of balls per bowler depends upon the number of balls in a game.
• The highest score that can be earned in one hitball is four in baseball. In cricket, the highest hit can be six.
Besides all these disimilarities, the length of both games also differs. Defining a more tight and hectic lifestyle of Americans, baseball games are generally shorter. The test matches in cricket can last up to five days while one day internationals too require almost a complete day to decide a winner.
