The Best Foods In Barcelona

Posted in Travel

Are you planning a long weekend to the Catalan capital this summer? There are many hotels for you to rent, but be warned, there’s a lot of food you need to try when you get there… At the top of my list is fideua. This fantastic dish consists of noodle like food, which are shorter and straighter than the type of noodles we’re used to and come with a healthy serving of alioli sauce, which is made from garlic cloves, olive oil and eggs, with the same consistency of mayonnaise.

After you’ve tried this traditional starter, move onto calçolts. These delicious Calçots are milder and less bulbous than onions and have a length of between 15/25 cm (white part)
Calçots are then vine roasted and dipped in salvitxada sauce or romesco, and accompanied by red wine or cava. Pieces of meat and bread slices are roasted in the charcoal after cooking the calçots.

Being from the UK, in general we like our meat and two vege. So next, move onto a selection of “botifarra amb mongetes”, that is bound to fill you up. This dish is a large helping of sausage with white beans and is truly one of the dishes at the heart of catalan cuisine.

Finally, for desert, try out Crema Catalana. This is truly the most catalan desert on the menu and is made from a delicious concoction. The custard is made with egg yolks, milk or cream and flour and is flavoured with sugar, lemon and orange zest and cinnamon. It is crème brûlée-like, with caramelized sugar on the top and if you order it, you’re bound for a treat.

Finally, after filling yourself up with delicious catalan cava (sparkling wine), why not wander back through the streets of Barcelona in the warm summer air.
