Paris Fun

Posted in Travel

At a cultural level, Paris is certainly one of THE international capitals, with a considerable amount of museums and monuments. You obviously can’t visit them all if you just relax around the Seine for four days, so lets go! You can visit three of the best museums in Paris for free. You should really consider the Carnavalet Museum in ‘Le Marais’, the ‘little palace’ near Champs Elysées and the museum of ‘la vie romantique’, all at the heart of the 9th arrondissement where there is some great accommodation.

Carnavalet museum
Situated in two particular hotels (Carnavalet Hotel and the Hotel ‘Le Peletier de Saint Fargeau) at the heart of the Marais district (close to the ‘Place des Vosgues’), the museum consists of more than a hundred rooms that boast collections that illustrate the evolution from prehistoric Paris to the present day. The museum contains a wide mixture of genres: paintings, sculptures, architecture, graphic design, photography, posters and even ancient coin collections. The museum is situated on Sévigné Street in the 3rd arrondissement; you can reach it by using line 5 on the metro, Saint Paul or Chemin stops. The area is an ideal location for entertainment.

Le Petit Palais
The museum has been completely refurbished and you will find the décor particularly interesting, mixing modern and a1900 styles. The museum has a lovely mosaic laden courtyard that reflects the interior collections. Amongst the themes are Paris 1900, the 19th, 18th and 17th century, the Renaissance, the Christian west and East, Greek and Roman. Access is completely free for these permanent exhibitions; apart from on Mondays between 10a.m and 6p.m, and the closest metro stop is Champs-Elysées-Clémenceau, (line 1 or 13). While visiting the museum you should take advantage of being in the area and visit the Champs Elysées, the Arc de Triomphe, the ‘Place de la Concorde’ and not to forget the well worth a visit ‘Jardin des Tuileries’.

The ‘Vie romantique’ museum
This atmospheric museum has kept all its charm of a tipical hotel of the Nouvelle Athénes area. The resting place of Ary Scheffer’s masterpiece and some of Ernest Renan’s work, this well recognized treasure has been established since 1987, for the admiration of the romanticist, George Sand. At the other side of the heart you can find the studio where Ary Scheffer worked from 1830 to 1958 which also inspired creations by Chopin, Liszt, Lamartine, Tourgueniev and Delacroix. A harmonious link between these masters that has been recreated in order to revitalize the romantic period can be seen at the museum: on the ground floor, the love letters, portraits, furniture and XVIII and XIX century jewellery of George Sand can be seen. On the first floor, the works of the painter Ary Schaffer can be seen surrounded with work of similar artists. The success and undisputable charm of the museum is also due to the reconstruction of the ‘atelier-salon’, with a library enriched with four generations of talented painters: Acheffer, Renan, Psichari and Siohan. I deeply encourage you to wander the streets of the area, the ‘rue des martyrs’ as its restaurants and charm filled boutiques will most certainly not leave you indifferent. I genuinely advise you to find Paris accommodation in this area, which will allow you to visit Montmartre at one side of the ‘Grand Boulevard´, and the Opera and the Saint Lazare station at the other. It is without a doubt one of the best areas to be situated in that will enable you to discover the capital; it hosts the best restaurants, boutiques charm
