Paris Culture
If you’re planning on going to Paris this summer or indeed, at any time of the year, prepare to be amazed. Paris is not only cultural, romantic and French; it is one of the most multicultural cities in Europe. With a strong multi cultural presence, mainly due to foreign awareness, tourism and the number of emigrated foreigners living in the city, Paris showcases some of the best multicultural festivals and parties most certainly in Europe, if not in the whole of the western world. So you might like to take into consideration the locations of these cultural events. This is why I have come up with a list of the best multicultural festivals of this summer. Enjoy!
Fête de Ganesh
The La Chapelle district of Paris, in the 18th arrondissement (or district) will be celebrating for the 13th year, its annual Indian parade. Just like London has its Jamaican carnival, Paris has its Indian. Ganesh, the elephant god, is celebrated through dance and music; a grand opening is had, with a very bright and noisy parade, filled with dancers and musicians. The main event of the day is the parade including a flower filled float, presenting Ganesh; coconuts are smashed on the floor as a symbol of world harmony. Bollywood is in town on the 31st of August, don’t miss it!
Afriques
This event is truly inspirational! According to a recent UNO report, poverty in Africa will improve by around 50% by the year 2147. Despite this being almost a hundred and fifty years away, there is still cause for celebration; the organizers of this event were also hoping to speed up the process by raising awareness of the problem by holding this event. During the event, there will be art, dance and music; all depicting hope and inspiration for a continent that hasn’t had much luck in recent years. There will be many Afro-Parisian Musical performances at the event, including Mory Kanté, Salif Keita and Didier Awadi.
Culture Tribus
After travelling the world and celebrating its 30th birthday last year, the Culture Tribus festival boat docks on the Seine for a summer filled with fun. Some of the performances you can expect to see are the Tribu Neo Africa, the Tribus Rock the Casbah and the Balkan’ Tribu; expect to see performances from all over the world. There’s not been a better time to visit Paris so lets go!
