When the majority of people visit Paris, they all flock to the city’s most obvious and known attractions, sights and monuments. Here is a side of Paris for those of you who want to travel down the unbeaten path and cherish sights and attractions that most don’t get to see.
A city of endless Surprises
The Eiffel Tower’s hidden Link
The majority of us are aware of Paris’s most famous monument, the Eiffel Tower but what most of us don’t know is that there’s a hidden link to the tower. This hidden link can be found at the cemetery that borders Seine, it’s here where you can find the remains of Gustave Eiffel, the famous engineer and architect. Even in death, he’s linked to his famous masterpiece. This is evident when you take a look at his grave, it’s out of alignment with the rest of the other graves as it faces towards the tower that bears his name.
Le Passe-Muraille
Found in a small square near the top of Montmartre, ¨Le Passe-Muraille¨ literally translates to ¨Passer Through Walls.¨ This name was derived from a short story written by Marcel Aymé, a Parisian writer who lived in the nearby area. It’s a sculpture of a man’s head, upper torso and right leg mounted on a stone wall. The sculpture is positioned in such a way that he appears as if he’s emerging from a wall. A compliment from one of his many well known characters that he’s created.
Memorials
While Paris may not be known for its memorial monuments, one of the most startling memorials can be found at the Square de la Roquette. It’s at this attractive garden that you will find what once used to be a horrendous prison. Today, this site is dedicated to all those who fought and died for France when resisting German occupation.
