Mixing It Up In Paris
Chinese New Year parades in Paris and the nearby suburbs.
Chinese New Year begins on 26th of January 2009. Also called Tet festival in Vietnam, it is the most important event for Chinese people around the world. Paris will host this event like every year by offering many parades full of colours, interspersed with dances, shows and events, where you will discover the richness of Chinese culture.
Parades by district:
• The 13th arrondissement parade named Chinese district:
The parade of the Dragon is the most popular event to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The parade will take place on the 1st of February 2009 from 13.30, from the Avenue d’Ivry metro Porte d’Ivry on line 7. It will then go to Avenue de Choisy, then Place d’Italie, avenue d’Italie, rue Tolbiac, avenue de Choisy, Masséna Boulevard and return to the Avenue d’Ivry. You can see traditional Chinese clothes, dragons in fire like colours, accompanied by music and dancing. I strongly recommend you come by metro from your location paris as car access will be banned.
• The 3rd arrondissement’s parade.
A parade will take place on Saturday 31st January 2009 at 2pm from the Place de l’Hotel de Ville. If you want to avoid the crowds that will be at the parade in the 13th arrondissement, the 3rd arrondissement’s parade will satisfy you: it also includes its traditional costumes and a parade with many brightly coloured dragons. The parade will depart from City Hall, then will visit the Temple Street, Rue Turbigo, Place des Arts et Métiers, Rue Beaubourg, Rue du Renard and return to the Place de l’Hotel de ville.
• Noisy-le-grand (93) celebrates Chinese New Year.
The traditional dragon parade will take place on the 31st January from the Place Gallieni. You will then be taken to the Jardin des Artistes where martial arts demonstrations will be given by professionals. The parade will continue until the Asian village of the Arcades lake, where animations will be held to celebrate the New Year: Asian tea tasting, calligraphy workshops, production of lotus flowers, discovery of Qi Gong, acupuncture, Aikido demonstrations and martial arts acrobatics. You can also try typical Chinese foods. Many performances will also take place in the village until 6pm. After this entertaining day, you will sleep very well in your location appartement paris.
