Even though writing is not the most difficult industry to get into, you have to keep in mind that there are a few things you will have to learn in order to be a good writer. This is why so many writers go through some sort of course or have a degree in creative writing.
When you write fiction you must remember that it is something that cannot be learned. You have to have a natural talent for fiction stories. Many writers do not study writing for fiction purposes. They might just do a course to get the basic layout techniques and sentence structure.
One thing to remember before you get started is that many new writers make mistake in the formatting of their script, manuscript or play. There are specific format for all of these things, so doing a bit of research into the different format is recommended. It’s easy enough to change in a word processor but you still have to remember to do it.
The next thing you have to think about is who you want to write for. Do you want to target children, teenagers or adults and to what degree do you want to write fiction from a complex point of view, such as maybe a crime scene investigation novel would involve.
Do you prefer writing romance novels, murder mysteries, science fiction, children’s stories, theater plays, movie scripts, magazine editorials, and in what genre? This is the next thing you must decide on before you start looking for a career in writing fiction. You don’t have to just choose one either – keep your options open.
