Lanzarote – Holiday Shangri-la Thats Unbeatable
Lanzarote – where on earth is it? To find this popular island just locate the Iberian Peninsula on an atlas, trace down onto Africa´s west coast and there you´ll see the Canaries situated just off the coast of Morocco. These seven Spanish owned islands are a real holiday paradise, offering sunshine all year round. And Lanzarote is the closest Canary Island to the West African coast.
Lanzarote´s location places it on the same latitude as parts of Florida, Mexico and the Bahamas, not far from the Tropic of Cancer. Yet it doesn’t enjoy the same sort of exotic image, despite the fact that it manages to match these other destinations in the all important weather and climate department, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius during the summer and a minimum of 20 degrees in winter. Making it the ideal spot for a sunshine break whatever the time of the year.
The island´s all important tourist sector was initially fuelled by package holidaymakers from the UK during the 1980´s. But that has started to change; with less and less breaks booked via travel agents and more arranged direct on line by independent travellers , which has created a growing demand for private accommodation to rent, so travellers are looking for Lanzarote villas together with flights, which take about four hours from the UK,and can easily be booked separately.
Most of the best accommodation on the island is located in the main resort of Puerto del Carmen, which is situated in the centre of Lanzarote´s south eastern coastline. There are numerous hotels to choose from here. Along with hundreds of good quality villas in Puerto del Carmen. The type of accommodation that is most sought after by travellers in search of independence and privacy.
Playa Blanca is Lanzarote´s second main holiday resort. This is the warmest part of the island, boasting the best weather and beaches in not just Lanzarote but the Canaries too. Here holidaymakers have their choice of three great golden sand beaches within ten minutes walk of each other. Plus the coves and bays of Papagayo just fifteen minutes away. No wonder then that Playa Blanca villas for rent are very popular with tourists.
Lanzarote has been welcoming tourists for 50 years or so now. So it isn’t the most novel or original of destinations. And new competitors such as Dubai, Turkey and Egypt are also vying for business. But the island remains a popular choice with British tourists regardless, as witnessed by the fact that so many keep coming back every year.
