Hotels Villas and Apartments In Lanzarote
Booking a holiday abroad has never been easier. Thanks to the advent of the Internet, which to a large extent has rendered travel agents redundant. With tourists now able to book breaks to holidays hot spots such as Lanzarote direct
online.
Lanzarote is located in the Canaries – an autonomous region of Spain comprised of seven main islands, the best known of which are Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Both of which became saddled with a slightly downmarket image during the 1980´s as package holidays really took off there. But today there are little signs of the Club 18-30 crowd and plenty of more upmarket options for anyone seeking a good quality holiday in the sun.
There is a plentiful choice of accommodation available here and although independent travellers often choose private Lanzarote villas or one of the extensive and varied choice of Lanzarote holiday apartments, more visitors are now looking at hotel accommodation.
Amongst the best known of these is the Gran Melia Salinas – which was constructed during the 1970´s and which is located in the resort of Costa Teguise. A local artist called César Manrique was involved in its design and his trademark touches – such as a huge white lagoon like swimming pool – are evident throughout. So ensuring that the Salinas is still widely regarded as one of the best hotels in Lanzarote.
The best known hotel on the island though is undoubtedly the Arrecife Gran, which could in fact even be described as notorious. As developers sneaked this up during the 1980s in complete contravention of island planning laws. And as a result it was declared illegal by the local government – who simply left it to rot on the seafront for many years, before taking the decision to allow transformation of this eyesore into an upmarket hotel.
There’s also now an excellent range of four-star hotels lining the shoreline in Playa Blanca. All offering reasonably priced rooms and great views across to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. These establishments have become especially popular during the winter months, as Playa Blanca tends to enjoy the best weather the island has to offer at that time of the year. And is often basking in sunshine whilst the north of the island can be shrouded in cloud.
Around half of all visitors to Lanzarote prefer self-catering accommodation to hotels and there’s a wide selection of Lanzarote villas for them to choose from across the island. Apartments in Lanzarote also provide a good value alternative for these seeking to book a break in the sun on a budget.
