Getting a good fish finder is really as difficult as finding the fish. But, Garmin fish finder products are suited to a variety of price and skill levels. Garmin produces five different fish finders, which take care of the full range of needs for almost all fishermen.
Their cheapest model is also their basic level product. This is the Fishfinder 90. A perfect machine for the newbie as it is easy to use, but still effective enough to be useful. Good shallow water functionality with a black and white display that comes with an automatic gain setting. Battery powered with one hundred watts of electricity. This model retails for around one hundred ten dollars.
Another Garmin fish finder device up on the scale is the Garmin fishfinder 140. This device is only slightly higher in price than the basic model selling for just below one hundred thirty dollars, but it has several additional features. The biggest improvement is the screen size actually being a much larger – 128 by 240 pixels. This also has automatic re-scaling and automatic back up of adjustments.
The Model 160C is a one hundred fifty watt unit with a color display screen that is easily readable during daytime. The display unit is 128 by 128 pixels. This machine sells for about two hundred dollars. The subsequent step up in rate is Model 300C. This is actually the same as the 160C but with a large color display unit of 240 by 300 pixels. It also has a split screen option. This machine costs around two hundred fifty dollars.
The leading edge version is the fishfinder 400C. This model is available in both freshwater and saltwater version. The freshwater models are designed for 900 feet depths and the salt water units are able to penetrate up to fifteen hundred feet. The first one is a four hundred watt model and the latter a five hundred watt unit.
