There is nothing better than summer in Berlin. The city is totally changed. With the first rays of sunlight all the people of Berlin can be seen in the streets, parks and lakes outside of Berlin. There isn’t a person who dosen’t enjoy the summer in Berlin. Both at day and at night there are festivals, concerts and parties in the streets. But staying the whole afternoon in one of the several street cafes gives the city an almost Mediterranean charm. Every year there are concerts of classical music and other types of music, theatre and opera performances. Here you have a small overview…

Citadel Music Festival: The Great Rock and Pop Festival is taking place from 30th May until September 2008 in Spandau Citadel. There is something for every music taste, whether rock, pop or classic with performances of world stars like Juanes or the Chemical Brothers and music legends such as Chicago, there are up to 30 different concerts to be seen.

5th International street theatre festival “Berlin laughs!”: The largest open-air event of street artists at the Alexanderplatz from 22nd until 24th of August, at the Kurfürstendamm from 29th until 31st of August. But also in the famous “Kulturbrauerei” are venues from 5th until 7th of September. You can see spectacular performances by artists and circus performers from all over the world.

Fête de la Musique: Each year the beginning of summer, at 21st of June, there is a big music festival to celebrate the summer beginning, a real highlight in Berlin. Countless theatres offer free concerts for every taste. Then there are numerous performances by amateur and professional musicians on public streets and squares in Berlin. Originally, this festival comes from Paris. But the festival is now celebrated in 340 other cities around the world.

Bergmannstraßenfest: Kreuzberg jazzt! The traditional street festival with its various jazz concerts on several stages, art and craft, snacks and drinks will be held from 27th until 29th of June. That means that in the whole area of Kreuzberg you can hear all day long jazz music! Every year there are about 300,000 visitors and since 1994 the festival is a must for every jazz fan!.

German-French festival: This traditional German-French festival from 13th of June until 14th of July 2008 is an interesting mix of hype- fun for adults and children, culinary highlights of the French and German kitchen. All accompanied by international sounds.

Sandsation Festival: The International Sand Sculpture Festival “Sandsation” opens from 8th of June until 17th of August 2008 at Berlin’s main train station. Artists from all over the world inspire with huge sand sculptures. The USF Double World Championship of Europe will present 12 teams which will create unique 7-meter-high sculptures.

Christopher Street Day: The Berlin gay and lesbian community will be celebrated from 28th of June 2008, and this year is a special one because the CSD turns 30! A colourful parade moves through the city to advert to the rights of the gay and lesbian community awareness and to celebrate their existence. The spectacular finale always takes place and the famous “Siegessäule” de Berlin.

Classic Open Air 2008: Fantastic beautiful melodies: the open-air concerts will take place from 3rd until 7th of July on the Gendarmenmarkt. It is an experience in itself because the ambience is just amazing.

Flamenco Festival: Excellent music and dance performances from traditional and modern flamenco artists from Spain, Europe and Germany on the 13th Flamenco Festival Berlin. The fascinating performances will take place on the open-air stage in the intimate atmosphere of the “Pfefferberg” -summer garden from 8th until 16th of August.

As you can see there is always something going on in Berlin. It is most definitely worth taking a trip to Berlin in the summer because as all the best parties take place during this time. Although Berlin doesn’t have a sea, there lots of lakes scattered around, so not to worry. Accommodation in Berlin can also be found really quickly, either in the centre or even slightly outside in the Greens. But in the city centre, there is a fantastic selection of Berlin apartments .     A small tip from me is an apartment with views from the 13 floor in the Tiergarten district with a great view over the Tiergarten district
    For 2 people just right and central to the central and western City.Man find other apartments but this is really great, especially on New Year’s Eve
