Bark Chippings Make Flower Borders Shine

As a way of dealing with the usual issues that gardeners have to contend with regularly, bark chippings have become a much needed addition to the gardener’s arsenal. Using bark chippings to stop weeds growing year on year is an excellent example. So long as the weeds growing in the soil are removed and killed before the bark chippings are spread, then they shouldn’t come back year after year.

As a way of keeping water in the soil, bark chippings are perhaps second to none, helping gardeners to save time on the arduous task of watering. Irrigation is a big job and so anything that can help the gardener will make him or her very grateful.

Clay type soils that are heavy can be loosened with bark chippings to enable them to be worked easier. This is in addition to their water retention properties mentioned previously and their ability to do this without absorbing the useful nutrients that the plants need.

One of the most overlooked and yet most obvious properties of bark however is the fact that it can be used decoratively. The Maple tree provides a rather beautiful bark that is often chosen for use as bark chippings. There are also pine barks and barks from other tree types used for decorative bark chippings.

Where there is soil visible to people, decorative bark chippings can be used to cover these areas and make them look good. Long car driveways and planted border are specifically suitable for the adding of bark. Bark chippings also look really good on pathways, allowing for rain to drain away whilst at the same time ensuring weeds are kept to a bare minimum.

Buying decorative bark chippings is easy to do online. This means that bark chippings can arrive at the door of the person ordering it, which is helpful considering the size and bulk of the bags that can be ordered. This can save a lot of time and effort due to the relatively light but bulky nature of bark chippings. A great deal of time can be saved because of the bulky nature of bark.
