Barcelona Accommodation Guide
Reus, El Prat, Girona….to name but three of the airports serving Catalonia’s capital. The so-called Ryanair phenomenon is bringing more and more visitors into Barcelona but chosing airport locations far out of the city to keep costs down. It’s the name of the game. Unaware that ‘Barcelona (Reus)’ actually involves an 80km drive to even reach the city, planeful after planeful of tourists arrive on the late night flight from London only to find themselves with yet another leg of the journey before reaching their destination.
Girona airport itself is located approximately 12km from Girona town centre and is the main gateway for the popular Costa Brava as well as being an alternative point of access to Barcelona and its wide range of Barcelona apartments for rent and hotels Barcelone.
Two local bus companies run services close to almost any Costa Brava hotel in neighbouring towns and resorts: ‘Barcelona Bus’ (by Sagales) and ‘Sarfa’ (by Sarbus). Conveniently buses depart from just outside the airport arrivals terminal. As is generally the case with Spanish coaches, tickets for all destinations must be bought in advance before boarding the coach from the ticket office which is located inside the terminal building. This office is open 7 days a weeks from 8am until 2am in line with the operating times of the services.
The ‘Barcelona Bus’ service runs one route to Lloret del Mar, Blanes, Magrat, Santa Susanna, Pineda de Mar, Calella de la Costa and Tossa de Mar and another which goes to Figueres (home of the Dalí Museum), Empunirabrava and Rosas. Meanwhile ‘Sarfa’ runs two routes. The first goes to Blanes, Malgrat de Mar, Santa Susanna, Pineda de Mar and Calella de la Costa and the second runs to the popular Tossa de Mar and Lloret de Mar.
Here’s the most straightforward way to get from Girona directly to your city centre Barcelona accommodation for rent.
1)Barcelona Airport Bus: this bus costs 12 euros single or 21 euros return and will take you to the Bus Station Estació del Nord, nearest Metro Arc de Triomf from which you can easily transfer to any destination in the city centre. Departures are regular but BE CAREFUL on the return journey to catch the bus to Girona airport and NOT Girona Town Centre.
2)By train: there is a regular service from Girona town centre to Plaça de Catalunya but you also need to factor in a transfer from the town centre to the airport.
