Arcade Video Games – Helpful Advice

Posted in Performing Arts

In today’s society, where video games of different types, ranges, scales, genres, formats, consoles and platforms have emerged and abounded perhaps more than ever, one who is not familiar with arcade video games is likely to hear that term and think of arcade video games as pass or no longer highly in demand the way they used to be so long ago. Many a time, when we think of the arcade type of video game, we picture youngsters with big, hair sprayed dos, chewing gum in neon colored stockings, flicking levers and pushing buttons on the stereotypical arcade gaming machines.

But when we talk about arcade video games, some people think of it as an old fashioned machine that has lost its fame. This is a common misconception by most people.

Arcade Video Games first gained popularity in the early 1970s, when the technology using solid-state electronics as well as integrated circuits was discovered by arcade video games? creators. Since then, arcade video games have pretty much maintained the same format and share the same qualities and traits as they used to back in the day. There have been more and more games released since those days. However, the actual video game machines in arcade format have managed to stay rather consistent with their original form.

Arcade video games usually have short-lived levels that increase in difficulty as the player progresses deeper in the game. Despite the rise of newer gaming consoles, arcade gaming still remains as one of the most popular video game platforms around. This is probably because it is played in a different environment compared to the home owned ones.

Perhaps the greatest difference in terms of gaming environment is that home based consoles allow players to play in the comforts of their homes. Here they can play on their own, never to worry about the amount of time they would be playing. On the other hand, arcade video games are designed to be played in the public, this environment is a lot different than in the home as you would be dealing with spectators or even accept challenges from other players. This adds an element of interaction and an additional dosage of difficulty. In addition, players experience an added pressure because each session will require them to drop a token or coin. Given this fact, the player is now dealing in a playing environment that he can only try for limited tries only which is very different from home-based consoles like the Playstation, XBOX, Wii and personal computers.

As mentioned earlier, arcade video games never did lose popularity, despite the growing number of home-based video game consoles because many gamers simply enjoy the retrospective, nostalgic vibe that they derive when playing arcade formatted video games. Others simply cannot afford to make a bulk or lump sum purchase to own a personalized video game console, and because of this, the arcade-type video games are bound to be around for a very long time yet. This is most likely the reason that the video game industry continues to produce and program up and coming arcade video games for the arcade industry, even with the influx of more advanced technology video games.
