Agecroft Hall – Richmond, Virginia

Posted in Travel

When you arrive in Richmond for your Virginia vacation you will want to take the time to visit the Agecroft Hall. Here you can learn the history of this house that was built in England late in the 15th century and was the home of the Langley and Dauntesey families. At the end of the 19th century the house has fallen into great disrepair and was sold at auction in 1925.

That could have been the end of the story but in fact it is just another chapter. The house was purchased at the auction by a Richmond resident named Thomas C. Williams, Jr. Mr. Williams had the house dismantled and moved to Richmond where it was carefully and painstakingly put back together, better than ever. It is now available for you to visit and enjoy.

While at the manor you will be able to view some of the beautiful furnishings that date back to the period between 1485 and 1660. Some of the pieces will have you truly marveling at the creativity and beauty of the days gone by. The gardens, especially the knot garden, are certainly something to remember.
