Acne Diet Development 101

Posted in Writing

An acne diet is certainly an appealing idea. Who hasn’t heard that eating chocolate may make you break out. Just about everyone has. So it doesn’t seem so crazy that by watching what you eat could prevent a break out.

Nevertheless, a good acne diet is not easy to develop. It is highly personal and based on your body’s unique responses to food. There are guidelines, but each individual’s progress will mostly be trial and error. Watch your skin carefully. Write a journal. You might even try taking pictures with your cameral a few times a week. If and when your acne diminishes stick to the diet plan you are on at the time.

The following guidelines can help get you started on an acne diet:

* Eat more protein - Some dermatologists even believe that protein intake is connected to having clear skin. The reason for this belief is because protein has an enzyme that will limit the production of oils. Oily skin seems to be extremely prone to breakouts.

* Stay away from carbohydrates. - You don’t have to completely cut carbs out. However, you do need to limit them to about 40 percent of your diet. This is because compounds in carbohydrates can stimulate oil production. This is why so many people think that junk food causes acne. But actually junk food just is pretty high in carbs.

* Consume green tea - If possible, drink the real stuff. The best type of green tea is the kind that you brew. However, if you really don’t like it, then try the natural green tea drinks. Androgen production will be limited when you drink green tea. Breakouts have been known to be caused by a hormone called androgen.

* Try to limit the amount of salt you intake - Iodine is almost always located within salt. This is the reason we usually call table salt “iodized salt.” Iodine can be one of the biggest inflammatory agents in people with acne.

In addition to watching your diet, you should carefully watch what you put on your face. If you currently have acne, you are more aware than most of what is contained in your beauty products. Those who are prone to acne should look for oil free moisturizers. Products containing natural ingredients will least likely irritate your skin. If you wear makeup you may want to consider switching over to mineral makeup. By using mineral makeup you may actually ease acne problems and increase the results of your acne diet.
