5 Reasons to Go Shopping in Rome
After ensconcing yourself in your charming Apartment Rom you should not think about sleeping! Nope, here are 5 good reasons to retail therapy in Rome.
Even if the city is not as famous as Milan concerning shopping, it anyway has beautiful boutiques that are not too expensive, second-hand-shops and lots of big shopping malls of the famous labels. The stores are opened from 9 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 7:30 pm and usually closed on Sundays and on Monday mornings.
1. The best shopping quarter is located between Via del Corso and Via del Babuino near the„Spanish Place“ (Piazza di Spagna). There you can find THE shopping street par excellence, the famous Via Condotti, which can definitely take on the Champs Elysées in Paris. It is one of the most prestigious, elegant, extravagant shopping streets in Rome and even in the whole world. Here you can find many boutiques, ready-to-wear shops, haute couture mode and jewelleries. As well you will encounter some of the Italian Top-Designer like Gucci, Valentino, Versace, Bulgari, Ferragamo, Armani… Moreover the famous artists such as Hermès, Cartier, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent… You should definitely visit the pedestrian areas next to Via Condotti for example Via della Croce and Via Frattina.
2. Located between the central station Termini and the Piazza Vittorio you can find the Mas Allo Statuo (Via dello Statuto 11). This is the Italian complement to the German Kaufhof. It is very famous in Rome because of its cheap prices for clothes and shoes – maybe also because it is opened on Sundays as well.
3. If you want to buy shoes you should visit the Market in Testaccio, near the Pyramid, in the morning. On the exterior part at Piazza dell`Emporio you can buy fruit and fresh vegetables. There are lots of stands where you can find only ladies´ shoes for a low price.
4. A special shopping expercience might be the flea market Porta Portese on Sunday mornings. It is one of the most favoured markets where you can really find everything. Most of the things are presented and sold like on a bazar. If you don’t like being between a crowd of people you should avoid a visit. For the shoppingfans however it is a must-see. Just avoid to take along valuables and take only as much money as you really need.
5. Of course there are reams of quarters with low priced boutiques, especially near the Vatican City, at Via Cola di Rienzo and at Via Ottaviano, where you can find shopping malls with all labels. You are able to buy nice trousers, shoes, child clothes and much more.
