30th Book Exhibition Of Paris

With over 1,200 exhibiting publishers from 25 countries, three thousand writers in attendance and five hundred events, the Salon du Livre de Paris is the largest and most important book fair in the Francophone world. For six days, over 198,000 visitors ( among them 25,000 registered trade visitors ) have the opportunity of exploring the multi-faceted French-language publishing landscape. The focus is on the major main line publishing firms such as Gallimard, Flammarion and Actes Sud. But a large number of smaller publishers also present their complete program and demonstrate the existence of a dynamic and creative scene beyond the publishing capital of Paris.

The Salon du Livre is structured for both personal and trade visitors. Alongside many on-stage events, the organisers are extending the program for the global professional and trade public. There are plans for a Business Centre for literary agents, scouts and rights managers and the Centre for Audiovisual Rights launched in 2009 will be expanded.

In 2010 and on its 30th anniversary, the Salon du Livre may not be inviting a guest nation as usual. Instead, 3 times thirty authors from France and abroad will be under the spotlights at the fair.
The French book market is highly centralised, with the head offices of most publishing companies based in an arrondissement in Paris. The largest publishing group is Hachette Livre ( sales 2007 : 2,130 m ), followed by Editis and France Loisirs, a Bertelsmann subsidiary. The differences in the industry are considerable : the 20 largest publishing firms have five thousand titles each in their catalogues, while approx. Five thousand publishing firms have alist of less than 10 titles.
